Lots of folks don’t know modern toilets have twin flush buttons, and they’re good for more than just flushing.
The big button uses about 6 – 9 liters for solid waste, the small one 3 – 4.5 liters for liquid.
These buttons save water.
Dual flush toilets have two levers or buttons. Each has its own exit valve, one bigger.
The big lever flushes 6 – 9 liters, the small 3 – 4.5 liters. Clearly, small for liquid, big for solids.
How much water saved? Switching to dual flush can save a home up to 20,000 liters a year.
It’s cheaper to install than a regular flush, and better for the environment, using less water.
History: American designer Victor Papanek came up with the dual flush idea in his 1976 book.
Australia first used it in 1980.
Tip: Next time, flush smart. Use the small lever for pee (it might be small or marked with a half circle, etc.). Use the big lever for poop (it’ll be bigger or marked).
