On December 31, Sina reported that a close friend of actress Zhao Lusi revealed a painful past in which she was physically assaulted by her boss while drunk. The revelation has caused an uproar, trending at the top of Weibo’s hot topics.
The incident took place in April 2019, when Zhao Lusi was still a young actress, primarily working in online dramas and not yet widely recognized. She had traveled to Beijing for auditions and was staying at a friend’s house. This friend witnessed a moment of helplessness and fear from Zhao Lusi.
According to Zhao Lusi’s friend, one day, she returned home to find Zhao Lusi hiding in a dark room, recounting the terrifying experience of being beaten by her boss. After failing the audition, Zhao Lusi was dragged into the bathroom by her boss, who scolded her for two hours. The boss repeatedly belittled Zhao Lusi, calling her talentless, criticizing her inability to pass auditions, and telling her she was too overweight to play leading roles.
Zhao Lusi endured the verbal abuse until 2 a.m. When she remained silent, her assailant slammed the door and left. Feeling wronged, Zhao Lusi grabbed her bag and went to leave, stepping out into the drizzle. The boss chased after her, seemingly attempting to slap her or grab her hair, but missed. However, Zhao Lusi was still struck, leaving her terrified.
Outraged, Zhao Lusi’s friend urged her to report the assault to the police, but the actress had no proof. Additionally, she was hesitant to tell her parents as her contract was still valid, and she feared they would accept a large compensation for contract termination out of pity for her.
Zhao Lusi’s friend wrote, “Both she and I thought that openly discussing what happened meant she had moved on. Lusi has been doing better and better, so we assumed she wasn’t dwelling on it anymore. But when I found out she still wakes up in terror from nightmares about it, I realized that this issue was far from resolved.”
The friend also shared that Zhao Lusi’s boss had called her parents, accusing her of being disobedient and needing discipline, all for her future. The boss briefly apologized for the assault, saying, “I’m sorry, I was drunk,” and the matter was quickly dismissed.
